Timothy Nuvangyaoma was born and raised on the Hopi Reservation and is Pifwungwa (Tobacco Clan) from the Village of Misungnovi. He transitioned to Phoenix, AZ where he embarked on a career in the financial sector along with earning his AAS in Business Management at Scottsdale Community College. After 25+ years off reservation, he returned to the Hopi Reservation where he dedicated himself to volunteer work with non-profit organizations, demonstrating a strong commitment to community service. In addition to his work in the non-profit sector, he remained active as a Wildland Firefighter with the Hopi Wildland Firefighting program. In 2017, he ran for the office of the Hopi Tribal Chairman and was elected to his first 4-year term as Chairman of the Hopi Tribe and was re-elected in 2021 to another 4-year term. Throughout his tenure, he played an integral role in building strong relationships with Federal, State, Local, and Tribal Governments including an appointment to the CDC Tribal Advisory Committee (CTAC). His professional experience has fostered a deep interest in the energy sector, and he remains committed to advancing renewable energy initiatives within tribal communities as well as serving as a strong advocate for promoting sovereignty and equity in tribal communities.
